New Style Week Day 1: Polar Bear

We're kicking off New Style Week with the first addition to our collection – the Polar Bear! This fuzzy cuddly bear has been requested many times, and we're happy to say it's here to stay.

Polar Bear

The Polar Bear is surprisingly only the second real bear in our collection (joining the Panda, and favorite fictional bears Pink and Black Gloomy Bear, Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma, Monokuma, Winnie the Pooh, and the Beige and Pink Teddy Bears). The Arctic giant is a beloved part of Canadian fauna, found in the most northern parts of the country. The Polar Bear is also found in Denmark, Norway, the US and Russia. And "giant" isn't an understatement–being at a maximum length of 8.2 feet and a maximum weight of 1322.77 lbs, the Polar Bear is the largest living species of bears. We've compiled a few more interesting facts, so please bear with us!

  • There are between 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears remaining in the world according to the World Conservation Union (IUCN). This marks the polar bear as a vulnerable species.
  • The Polar Bear's diet largely consists of Seals.
  • Polar Bears are excellent swimmers.
  • Male and non-breeding female Polar Bears do not hibernate in the winter.
  • Although their fur appears to be white, it's actually transparent with a hollow core, which in turn reflects light. Their skin underneath is black.
  • Their seemingly-white fur helps them blend in with their arctic environment.
  • Polar Bears generally live between 20 to 25 years
